General Overview

Job Duties: Perform modeling, forecasting, analysis, and reporting in support of wholesale electric market business operations. Perform financial, economic and statistical analysis related to pricing, settlement, structuring, and/or risk. Provide direct planning and analytical support for development of electric power supply strategies, evaluation and analysis of generation assets and power purchase and sale contracts. Perform quantitative analysis and modeling of economic and financial impacts of fuel and purchased power activities.   Perform advanced financial, economic and statistical analysis relating to wholesale market activities. Analyze power sales and purchase contracts and their potential benefits and risks to company’s wholesale portfolio. Develop and maintain complex economic evaluation and cash flow simulation models for fuel supplies, power generation, purchased power and load costs. Analyze data from natural gas, coal and electrical power generation markets and formulate statistics to draw meaningful conclusions. Assess transactions for value, commodity and non-commodity risks, capital requirements, cash flows, physical optionality, and strategic benefits. Manage complex contractual requirements for pricing, cost allocation, rates and reconciliation. Provide complex analysis to enable contract strategies that help retain customers and positions the company to compete in de-regulated markets. Advise management on short-term issues affecting company’s long-term electric generation resource outlook, rates and strategy. Develop and deploy databases for research and information. Ensure quality assurance and quality control of data and documentation. Identify and correct errors in complex mathematical calculations performed by various software tools used. Understand and implement complex Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) protocols related to ERCOT settlement, scheduling and dispute resolution. Utilize experience in:  power flow and market simulation models, including PowerWorld and UPLAN, for use in analyses of ERCOT market; participation in ERCOT stakeholder forums, including Regional Transmission Planning Working Group (RPG) and Planning Working Group (PLWG); developing, implementing, maintaining and testing regional energy databases for state and/or regional systems or councils; performing energy related studies using electricity models to simulate power markets; conducting transmission, generation and new entrant analysis and volatility and risk analysis; and forecasting energy and ancillary service prices and developing bidding strategies for portfolio optimization.  Work location: Austin, TX.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Requires Master’s degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics or related field and 5 years experience in job offered or 5 years of work experience in related occupation.  Requires 3 years experience in the following:   power flow and market simulation models, including PowerWorld and UPLAN, for use in analyses of ERCOT market; participation in ERCOT stakeholder forums, including Regional Transmission Planning Working Group (RPG) and Planning Working Group (PLWG); developing, implementing, maintaining and testing regional energy databases for state and/or regional systems or councils; performing energy related studies using electricity models to simulate power markets; conducting transmission, generation and new entrant analysis and volatility and risk analysis; and forecasting energy and ancillary service prices and developing bidding strategies for portfolio optimization. In lieu of Master’s degree, employer will accept Bachelors degree in above-listed fields and 5 years progressive work experience.   In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, employer will accept 2 years related work experience.  Experience may be gained concurrently. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience.
