  • Preferred Qualifications

    General Overview

    • Perform drafting and/or engineering support duties. Implement solutions developed by engineers, draft solutions in AutoCAD, and able to take field data and report back to engineer.
    • Read and interprets engineering drawings, construction drawings and other technical information.
    • Using computer-aided design software and equipment, prepare engineering drawings. File drawings and drawing update documentation according to standard procedures.
    • Assist with field and/or office research related to field measurements, historical engineering drawings, equipment databases, microfilm, inventory, electronic document management system (EDMS) records and other technical records to design equipment and layouts, as well as to produce equipment ratings and facility statistics.  Field research may involve various physical activities.
    • Perform data entry in the departmental engineering database.
    • Operate equipment, such as plotters, printers, copiers and scanners.
    • Gathers engineering information by traveling independently to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as necessary.
    • Rotates among different work groups to gain knowledge of Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Current enrollment in an accredited technical college pursuing a degree in engineering technician with a minimum of 30 course hours completed.
    • Driver’s license

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    - Basic knowledge of engineering principles
    - Knowledge of electronic document management systems (EDMS)

    Knowledge of computer-aided drafting principles, standards and techniques

    - Skill in verbal and written communication
    - Basic Skill in designing, interpreting diagrams, schematics, and drawings
    - Understanding of scopes of work, budgetary estimates, and material lists
    - Intermediate skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
    - Basic skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints
    - Basic skill in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications for field personnel
    - Ability to articulate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
    - Ability to work in a team environment

    - Skill in the use of test equipment and/or other specialized tools
    - Skill in operating plotters, printers, copiers and scanners
    - Ability to perform accurate data entry

    - Ability to work in a team environment

    Work Environment

    - Work will be completed in an industrial plant facility as well as an office environment
    - Work may involve periodic rotating shift work as well as holidays and weekends

    Physical Demands

    - Standing, sitting, working at a computer
    - Working outdoors in a hot / cold environment
    - Climbing ladders, staircases, and confined space areas

    Wholesale Power Engineering

    • Majors preferred: Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering Technical College
    • Classification: Sophomore or Junior
    • Duties: Perform engineering related tasks such as produce construction drawings, visit project sites, and observe and inspect construction progress. The intern is to work under direct supervision and direction of his engineering mentor.
