  • General Overview

    At an intermediate level, operates arc welders, gas welders, and torches to fabricate, modify and repair steel parts and structures  necessary for construction and maintenance projects.  Works from sketches, prints, operation sheets, preliminary drawings, and written/verbal instructions. This position utilizes knowledge and experience in own discipline but is still building higher-level knowledge and skills. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction from supervisor, manager and/or more experienced colleagues. 

    • Sets up and operates all welding equipment. 
    • Interprets and follows diagrams and prints to fabricate, modify and repair steel parts and steel structures.
    • Operates heavy equipment (e.g., overhead crane, forklift and iron working machines) in performing construction and maintenance tasks. 
    • Maintains tools, equipment and facilities for assigned work area.
    • Lays out and marks weld points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates. 
    • Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two or more years of experience in welding and steel fabrication.  A degree(s) in welding, steel fabrication or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
